Senator Chuck Grassley to Head Judiciary Committee
The new Republican majority in the Senate means new chairs for all committees. Faced with the choice between the Finance, Budget or Judiciary committees, Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley has decided to take chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee.
A deciding factor in Grassley’s decision was his desire to oversee nomination hearings for federal judge positions. In a statement to The Des Moines Register, Grassley explained that judges are meant to decide and mediate cases, not create public policy or law. Grassley also mentioned his intent to strengthen border security and improve legal immigration opportunities.
While serving as chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Grassley will continue to act as senior member of the Finance and Budget committees.
