Dear Readers:

For immigration lawyers, the summer kicks off with the annual meeting of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Last week it was held in Orlando and, while it was always a hugely important event from the perspective of learning about immigration law, in recent years it has become important in many other respects. AILA now is training immigration lawyers how to fight the Trump Administration in Federal Court. It has tracks on law practice management so it’s members can run their businesses better. It has top political speakers – this year they had a keynote address from presidential candidate Julian Castro. I’ve been to every AILA meeting since 2012 and it’s always one of the highlights of my year.

This year, Siskind Susser lawyers Elissa Taub, Ari Sauer, Lily Axelrod and me all were speakers on panels. I also spoke at the Global Migration Section’s annual meeting held in Orlando just before the AILA annual meeting. And I am pleased to tell you that I was elected to serve another three-year term on AILA’s Board of Governors. I look forward to serving my fellow immigration lawyers in that capacity.

As always, we welcome readers of this newsletter to contact us if they would like to discuss immigration matters. We now have automated our online appointment scheduling and it can be done at www.visalaw.com/consultation.
