ICE Announces Texas Man Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Defrauding Immigrants

A Texas citizen had been sentenced to three years in prison and three years of supervised release after fraudulently collecting thousands of dollars from individuals seeking immigration benefits. Alejando Guarany-Navarro collected money from foreign nationals across the country, misleading them to believe that he was a government employee who could provide legal immigration status for a fee. Between December 2011 and March 2015, Gurany-Navarro posed as a government employee, promising citizenship to aliens in exchange for money. Gurany-Navarro would meet immigrants at the airport in SeaTac Washington, acquire personal information such as photographs and fingerprints and payment, sometimes thousands of dollars. When the promised legal status never came to fruition, immigrants would not raise alarm out of fear that Gurany-Navarro would use the acquired personal information to have them deported. Gurany-Navarro was ordered to pay $140,550 to more than 25 victims in Washington and Ohio.
