Gay Married Man in Florida is Approved for Green Card
The New York Times reports that an American man and his Bulgarian husband were the first same-sex couple to be approved for a permanent resident visa following the Supreme Court decision in United States v. Windsor. Traian Popov of Bulgaria lives with his husband, Julian March, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He has been living legally in the U.S. for 15 years on a series of student visas; he currently holds three master’s degrees and is working on a doctorate in social sciences. The Obama administration stated after the Supreme Court overturned DOMA that it would act swiftly to change its visa policies, but the couple and their immigration lawyer, Lavi Soloway, were both surprised by the speed of the approval.

Rove: GOP Needs Hispanics to Win in 2016
Newsmax reports that Karl Rove expects the Republican party to lose the 2016 presidential election if it does not make an effort to cater to non-white voters. Rove contends the GOP’s political clout will dwindle “not overnight, but over years and decades.” Though GOP support for immigration would be a winning issue among Hispanic voters, Republicans still have to send compelling messages to other significant voting groups in the U.S. to bolster its reputation for the 2016 election.
