In our May newsletter we reported that Border Patrol agents in Fresno, California conducted a raid on a public high school that resulted in the arrests of three teens alleged to be in this country illegally. Shortly after the story was released, an INS spokesman responded to our story by stating that the metro unit of the Multi Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC) in Fresno requested the help of the Border Patrol agents in relation to a gang incident that day. The INS admitted that the entry of Border Patrol agents onto school property and the arrest of three students there were mistakes contrary to the INS’ policy of not targeting schools in its efforts to locate undocumented immigrants. The INS also ensured that such an incident would not happen again.
