A new study just released by the US Census Bureau shows that roughtly one in ten Americans were not born in this country. According to the Census Bureau, that is the highest figure than at any point in the last 50 years. However, the current figures still pale in comparison to the early part of this century when the proportion of foreign-born Americans was more than 50% higher.

About 1/4 of the foreign-born population in the US is from Mexico, accounting for a population of nearly 7 million. The Philippines ranked second and China and Hong Kong were next on the list. Europeans account for 20% of immigrants.

California has the largest concentration of immigrants. Approximately 25% of Californians are immigrants followed by New York at 20%. Florida, New Jersey and Texas were next on the list.
