Non-immigrant Visas: Visas are normally issued the same day as the application is submitted. If an applicant cannot be processed, the consulate will normally allow the applicant to process the next day. The non-immigrant visa denial rate is around 30%. There are no specific rules regarding how many times one may reapply or how much time one must wait between submitting applications. There are no specific prohibitions on the processing of third country national cases.
The US consulate in Cairo maintains a drop box application system for certain applicants. The following cases are eligible to use the drop box:
- Applicants with a prior 12 month U.S. visa (within the last 10 years).
- Spouses and children (under 16 years of age) of any person holding a valid multiple entry visa (at least 12 months validity).
- Returning students with a valid I-20 (F1) or IAP-66 (J1) seeking to resume their studies/research in the United States.
The following information must be submitted at the consulate between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm daily:
- A passport valid for travel to the United States
- A fully completed and signed application form
- One photograph (6 cm x 4 cm on a light background)
- L.E. 70.00 or $20.00 for each application (non-refundable). N.B. No $100 bills will be accepted.
- Proof of prior U.S. visa.
The passports will be ready for pick-up from the cashier’s window between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. the same day.
Immigrant Visas:
Immigrant visas are normally issued the same day as the interview as long as the applications contain all the necessary information. Oftentimes, however, applications are delayed considerably because additional information is needed, particularly relating to demonstrating that the applicant will not become a public charge.
Family cases are often scheduled for an interview within a few weeks of receiving the Packet 3. Employment cases can take much longer, often several months.
The immigrant visa application fee is $200.
Medical Exams:
Applicants should allow a few weeks to get back the medical exam results and should remember to take their passports to the medical exam as the passport number is noted on the examination reports. The following physicians are authorized by the US Consulate to conduct medical exams:
Dr. Zoheir Farid, 16 Abdel Khalik Sarwar Street, Cairo, Tel. 392-5023 or 392-5023
Dr. Ihab Mounir, 8A 26th of July Street, Cairo, Tel. 391-9266
Dr. Rawia A. Khater, 92A Mohmaed Farid Street, Cairo, Tel. 393-8770
Dr. Amr Maher, 97 Abdel Salam Aref Street, Gleem, Alexandria, Telephone 586-2323
