One of the busiest months in our firm’s history has just come to an end. Siskind and Susser is currently undergoing a major expansion. We began February with three lawyers in two offices. By the end of February, we added an office and a new partner in Toronto, Canada (we will announce all of the details on the Toronto office in the very near future, but we are pleased to let Canadian readers know that we will be substantially increasing the amount of content in our newsletter and on our Web page addressing US immigration issues affecting Canadian nationals). By the end of this month, we will be adding an additional partner and associate in our Nashville office. The additional personnel means that we will be able to deliver improved service for our clients and that we will have the resources to dramatically improve our Internet presence.
We were also quite busy assisting applicants with the green card lottery. The application period began on February 12th and will end on March 12th. We have been able to help thousands of people around the world with their lottery applications and hope to hear from winners who used the information on our Web site and in our newsletter. Winners of the DV-97 lottery should expect to begin hearing from the Department of State early this summer.
February 1996 was a record month for our Web site. More than 400,000 people visited our site and we expect to hit the million hit mark just for this year sometime in the next few weeks. We thank all those who visited our pages and look forward to making a number of new improvements that we believe will make our site even more popular.
On the legislative front, a several month lull in activity relating to the immigration overhaul bills in Congress has come to an end. This month, we provide our regular legislative update article as well as a special University Focus article dealing with the impact of the Simpson Bill on higher education. On our Web site, we are adding the American Immigration Lawyers Association’s excellent section by section summary of the Simpson Bill. The time for voicing your concerns relating to immigration reform is running out. We urge you to contact your Congressman and Senators soon.
We also are providing all of our regular features including State Department Visa Numbers, INS processing times, a visa spotlight on J-1 waivers for foreign physicians and a Consular Focus article on the Bonn, Germany consulate.
