The Los Angeles Immigration and Naturalization Service has naturalized a 117 year old woman from Armenia, possibly making her one of the oldest persons ever to become a naturalized citizen (the INS cannot confirm this is a record). Manik Bokchalian became an American because she believes America “is a healthy country and she wants to be a part of it.” Ms. Gambaryan, a native of Turkey, entered the US in 1980 at the age of 101. She has two daughters, a son and more than thirty grandchildren. Her husband died more than 50 years ago when she was already 67.
