USCIS Resumes H-2B Adjudications

On March 17th, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) resumed adjudications of H-2B petitions based on temporary labor certifications issued by the Department of Labor (DOL). Premium processing remains suspended until further notice.

In the March 4th ruling of Perez vs. Perez, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida vacated DOL’s H-2B regulations on the basis that DOL has no authority under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) to issue them.  Following the court order, DHS suspended adjudications of H-2B petitions. DOL has since filed an unopposed motion to postpone the effect of the order until April 15th, allowing DHS to resume adjudications of H-2B petitions until then.

American Action Forum Counts Total Economic Cost of Deportation

The American Action Forum, a center-right policy institute that advocates for immigration reform as an economic issue, released a study that counts the total economic cost of deporting all illegal immigrants in the U.S.  Apprehending, detaining, processing, and transporting all 11 million undocumented immigrations to their home countries – a 20 year endeavor – would cost the US government up to $600 million, shrink the work force by 11 million, drop GDP by nearly $1.6 trillion, and reduce economic growth by at least 5.7 percent.
