Most of you have probably seen the shocking video of a South Carolina police officer shooting Walter Scott in the back after Scott was pulled over for having a broken tail light. The police officer originally reported that Scott had attacked the officer and he was defending himself. But Feidin Santana, a barber who is an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, saw what was happening and had the quick sense to film the whole incident on his smart phone. Because of his quick thinking, it now appears that Scott was shot in cold blood and the officer has been charged with murder. Some would have been afraid to film the incident and others would have been afraid to come forward. The Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart is calling Santana a “hero of conscience”. Indeed, Mr. Santana told NBC News that he was so afraid that he considered deleting the video and fleeing town. Fortunately, he was brave enough to go public with his evidence. Thank you Mr. Santana.
